Many Dell laptops can run a built-in battery test from the pre-boot diagnostics (ePSA / SupportAssist) at the boot menu. Windows adds a battery report: run powercfg /batteryreport and compare full-charge capacity with design capacity.
A swollen pack pushes the chassis upward from inside. Stop using the laptop, unplug the charger and do not press the bulge down.
The laptop dies at 20% to 40% without warning, or the percentage jumps down in steps.
