Our Commitment

No Fix, No Fee Guarantee

If we cannot repair your MacBook logic board, you only pay a small diagnostic fee (RM 100–150). We will never charge you for a repair that did not succeed. This is our honest commitment to every customer — no surprises, no hidden costs.

Board faults, by symptom

These are starting prices for the fault types we see most. Which one applies is established at diagnosis — a machine that will not power on could be any of three of these, and guessing costs you money.

No power at all

No light, no fan, no response to the power button. Usually a power management IC or a failed rail rather than the whole board — the most common board job we see.

From RM350

USB-C charging fault

Not charging, charging intermittently, or only on one port. Often the charging IC or the port's own circuit, and one of the cheaper board repairs.

From RM280

Liquid damage on the board

Corrosion after a spill, cleaned ultrasonically and then repaired at component level. Priced higher because the damage is rarely just one component.

From RM450

Backlight or display circuit

Screen dark but the machine clearly running, or a very faint image under torchlight. The backlight circuit on the board, not the display itself.

From RM350

Restart loops and shutdowns

Booting and dying, kernel panics, or shutting down under load. Usually a voltage rail that cannot hold up once the machine draws current.

From RM300

Complex IC replacement

Multiple failed components, or a chip that needs full hot-air removal and reballing. The upper end of the range, and where our microscope work earns its keep.

Important Note

Logic board repair requires specialized micro-soldering skills and equipment. Success rates vary depending on the type and extent of damage. We provide honest assessments and only charge if the repair is successful. If we can't fix it, you only pay a small diagnostic fee.

Can an M1, M2 or M3 board be repaired?

Yes — many of them. Charging circuits, power management ICs, display and USB-C rails, and damaged traces are all repairable on Apple Silicon boards, and we do them routinely. What is different is that the SoC and the storage are soldered to the board, so a failure in those specific chips is a harder ceiling than it was on Intel machines.

The practical consequence is about your data, not the repair: on M-series MacBooks the storage cannot simply be moved to another machine. If the data matters more than the hardware, tell us at drop-off and we will approach the board in the order that protects it.

Diagnosis first, always

Board work cannot be quoted from a description of the symptom, because the same symptom has several causes. The diagnosis is where the price comes from, and you decide after it.

  1. Intake and symptom history

What happened, when, and what has been tried already. A machine that was dropped is a different investigation from one that died overnight, and knowing which saves diagnostic time.

  2. You approve here

    Component-level diagnosis

Multimeter, thermal camera and microscope work to find the actual failed component rather than the general area. This is what produces your quote — and where an honest "not worth it" comes from too.

  3. Micro-soldering repair

The failed chip, capacitor, transistor or trace is replaced under a 400× microscope with a hot-air rework station. Only the part that failed — not the board.

  4. Load and stress testing

The board is run under load to confirm the fix holds when the machine gets hot, not just when it first boots. Board repairs that fail usually fail here, on our bench rather than your desk.

  5. Reassembly and handover

Back into the chassis, full function test, and your 3 Months - 1 Year Warranty on the repair explained before you collect.

Logic Board Repair FAQ

The eight questions we're asked most about board repair — including the comparison behind the numbers above, in full.

What are symptoms of a failing MacBook logic board?

Common signs include: MacBook not turning on at all, blank/black screen even though it powers on, random shutdowns or kernel panics (spinning beachball that never recovers), GPU artifacts or distorted display, no charging response, USB ports not working, and unusual overheating. If you see any of these, bring it in for a expert diagnostic assessment — early diagnosis often means a lower repair cost.

Can Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3 logic boards be repaired?

Yes, with important caveats. Apple Silicon chips (M1, M2, M3 and their Pro/Max/Ultra variants) are soldered directly to the logic board and cannot be swapped. However, many surrounding components — power management ICs, USB-C controllers, charging circuits, backlight drivers, and memory interfaces — can be repaired at component level. We assess each case individually and provide honest estimates on repairability.

What is component-level repair vs board replacement?

Apple's standard approach is to replace the entire logic board, costing RM 2,000–5,000+. Component-level repair (also called micro-soldering or board-level repair) means we identify and replace only the specific failed chip, capacitor, transistor, or trace. This typically costs RM 280–800 and saves 70-80% vs a full board replacement. Our technicians use 400x microscopes and hot-air rework stations to perform these repairs.

How much does it cost to replace vs repair a logic board?

A full Apple logic board replacement costs RM 2,000–5,000+ depending on model (more for Apple Silicon boards). Component-level repair at Techfix ranges from RM 280 for a simple port repair to RM 800 for complex IC replacements. Most repairs fall in the RM 350–600 range. We always quote before starting work — if repair is unsuccessful, you only pay a small diagnostic fee (RM 100–150).

Is it worth repairing a MacBook logic board?

In most cases, yes — especially if your MacBook is 2-5 years old and in good physical condition. A RM 400–600 board repair is far more economical than a RM 5,000+ new MacBook. We also see many cases where Apple declares a MacBook 'unrepairable' but we successfully restore it. However, if damage is catastrophic (severe corrosion across multiple systems after long water exposure), we'll tell you honestly when repair is not cost-effective.

How long does MacBook logic board repair take?

Typically 2-5 business days. Diagnostics take 1 day, simple repairs (port replacement, backlight circuit) may finish in 1-2 days, and complex board repairs with multiple damaged components require 3-5 days. We provide updates throughout the process and confirm pricing before starting any work.

What if you can't fix my logic board?

If we're unable to repair your logic board, you only pay a small diagnostic fee (RM 100–150) to cover our technician's assessment time. We will never charge full repair costs for a failed repair. If storage is affected, we will explain the safest next step before doing anything risky.

Do you offer a warranty on logic board repairs?

Successful logic board repairs include our 3 Months - 1 Year Warranty covering the specific components repaired, with longer warranty options available. If the same covered fault recurs within the warranty period, we re-examine it. The warranty does not cover unrelated new faults or user-caused damage.
