Where the fault follows the lid, we move the lid gently while the preview is running to see whether the hinge cable is cutting out. Common questions about Laptop Camera Repair
Why is my laptop camera not working?
The usual causes are a closed privacy shutter or a camera function key, a BIOS switch, Windows camera privacy settings blocking the app, a driver that broke after an update, a loose or pinched camera cable in the hinge, or a failed camera module.
How do I check whether the camera is just switched off?
Look for a physical shutter or a camera function key, then open Settings, Privacy & security, Camera and make sure camera access is on for your app. In Device Manager, check that the camera appears under Cameras or Imaging devices. If it is missing there altogether, tell us when you bring the laptop in.
Why is the picture black when the camera light comes on?
That usually means another app is already using the camera, a privacy setting is blocking the app, or the driver is stuck. Only one app can use the camera at a time, so close the others and restart. If the camera light never comes on and the camera is missing from Device Manager, a hardware fault is more likely.
Can you replace only the webcam?
On most laptops the camera is a small module in the top bezel that can be replaced on its own. On some models it is part of the display assembly. We confirm which applies to your model at diagnosis, before you approve anything.
How much does camera repair cost and how long does it take?
There is no fixed price: a setting fix, a cable reseat and a module replacement are very different jobs, so we quote after diagnosis. Diagnosis for a Windows laptop is RM100, waived when you approve the repair quote. Turnaround and part availability are confirmed at diagnosis.
Will camera repair wipe my files?
Camera diagnosis and repair is driver and hardware work and should not touch your files, but back up anything important before any repair. If we ever found that only a Windows reset would fix the problem, we would tell you first and say plainly that it erases data.
My camera stopped working after the lid or hinge was damaged. Why?
The camera cable runs from the base through the hinge into the lid. Repeated opening, a loose or broken hinge, or pressure on the lid can pinch or strain it, which gives a camera that cuts out when you move the screen or does not work at all. We check the cable and the hinge together, and if the hinge is the cause, the hinge repair is quoted with the camera work.
