The Three Business Plans
Microsoft 365 has three main plans for companies of up to 300 users: Business Basic, Business Standard and Business Premium. Each includes everything in the one before it.
Prices change and depend on the term you commit to, so check Microsoft's current Malaysian pricing page or your licensing partner's quotation rather than relying on figures in an article.

How Companies Usually Choose
Business Basic suits staff who work mainly in email and in the browser — frontline staff, or companies that already own desktop Office licences.
Business Standard is the most common choice for office staff who need the installed desktop apps, especially Excel and Outlook.
Business Premium is for companies that want to manage and secure their laptops, not just license software. It adds:
- Intune to enrol laptops and phones, push settings, enforce encryption and wipe a lost device
- Defender for Business for endpoint protection across the fleet
- Conditional access, e.g. blocking sign-ins from unmanaged devices or unusual locations
If your company holds customer or staff data and has laptops leaving the office, the Premium features map closely to what the PDPA IT checklist asks for.
You Can Mix Plans
Plans can be combined in one company — for example, Premium for staff who handle sensitive data and travel with laptops, and Basic for staff who only need email. You pay for what each person needs.
Licences Are Only Half of It
Buying Business Premium does not secure anything on its own: Intune policies, encryption, conditional access and Defender all have to be configured and maintained. Many small companies pay for Premium and use it like Standard.
Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?
