Broken or Bent Connector Pins
The magnetic connector pins on the bottom of the Surface Pro can bend from drops or forceful attachment. Bent pins cause intermittent connection — the keyboard works at certain angles but not others.
Sticky or Stiff Keys
Keys feel sticky, mushy, or require excessive force. Often caused by liquid spills, crumbs, or dust accumulating under the keycaps. Common on both Type Covers and Surface Laptop keyboards.
Alcantara Fabric Damage / Staining
The Alcantara-covered Type Covers (Pro 4-7, Laptop 1-2) absorb oil from hands, coffee spills, and general grime. The fabric darkens, stains, and eventually degrades — affecting both looks and resale value.
Backlight Not Working
The keyboard backlight fails to turn on or flickers. On Type Covers, this is usually a ribbon cable fault. On Surface Laptops, it can indicate a deeper mainboard connection issue.
